Platelet Rich Plasma “PRP” - Wound Management

Several studies have indicated platelet rich plasma “PRP” therapy, has a very positive effect in the treatment of non-healing skin ulcerations and other wounds.

Wondering why the body won’t resolve certain injuries on its own and relies on treatments like PRP to heal properly? One theory is that over time the body can stop recognizing an area as “something to repair,” especially in the case of chronic injuries, degeneration or conditions such as severe tendonitis that cause consistent pain.

PRP can help patients who have not responded well to other treatments, such instances where people deal with non-healing or slow healing wounds. This is particularly true in people suffering from diabetes, or who get pressure sores. Also known as “bed sores,” from being bed-ridden for long periods of time.

Non-healing pressure sensitive wounds also often occur in people with disabilities who are wheelchair bound.

In the case of hard to heal wounds, PRP therapy has been proven to “jump start” the healing process.

PRP is carefully taken directly from a patient’s own blood, which is spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma. This plasma is then injected into the affected area where pain or damaged tissue resides.
